In April 2022, Don Bosco Fambul, an NGO in Freetown dealing with young people approached Next Chance for a Consultancy to undertake the training of 30 of its Beneficiaries in Basic Plastic Recycling Techniques. The Training was conducted at the new Don Bosco Fambul Therapy Center at Bolima. The Training focused on Plastic, plastic types, classification of plastic, and basic recycling techniques. The trainees understood about plastic and they recycled different plastic types into floor pavers. They were also taught how to install pavers in compounds. The training lasted for one month. Certificates were given to the Learners after the Training.
Educating for a Sustainable Future: Next Chance Innovation Hub’s Outreach in Makeni City Schools on Plastic Problems and Solutions
As part of its educational program, Next Chance Innovation Hub has been reaching out to Schools in the Makeni City on the plastic problem and sustainable solutions. In April 2024, Next Chance Innovation Hub visited the Baptist Secondary school, Makama, the Univeristy of Makeni. Recently, it reached out to the Alhadi Secondary School, Sesay street, Makeni and the Kulafai Rashideen Secondary school, Wusu street, Makeni. The objective of this outreach program is to involve more young people in understanding about the SDGs, the global plastic provlem, the advantages and disadvantages of plastic, plastic types and sustainable solutions using the example of the Next Chance Innovation Hub Plastic Laboratory. A total of 700 students and pupils have been reached so far.
